As founder of the business in 1992, Mike Gray provides the “essence” from which a great team culture has flourished and the vision which has lead First National Nerang to be a highly successful and truly unique, customer-centred organisation.

Today, it is regarded as one of Australia’s model agencies, recognised by both state and national real estate institutes as agency of the year several times, not only for its sales performance, but for its innovative business practices in all areas of agency operation.

Originally from Melbourne, Mike’s family of 7 migrated to Townsville when he was 10 years old. He spent his teen years playing Australian Rules football and excelling at club athletics. Attending Pimlico High School, he spent 4 years in the Army Cadet Corps reaching the rank of Company Sergeant Major. This inspired him to join the Australian Regular Army in 1974 where he became member of the Royal Australian Signal Corps.

Retiring from the Army in 1979, Mike immediately commenced his real estate career, working in Caboolture, Bribie Island, the Whitsundays and ultimately the Gold Coast.

Mike’s only break from real estate was a 3 year period in the mid 80’s as a major account executive for the TNT group and Anset Air Freight, but he missed the challenge and excitement of the real estate industry. However he was not prepared to return to the industry working under the same old poor business practices that represented the majority of agencies back then, so he decided to establish his own with a totally unique business model.

Combining many of the skills, disciplines and experience gained from the Army, the Corporate world and his time as a real estate salesperson in the 80’s, Mike set about forming an agency with a focus on superior customer service and client communication. He implemented comprehensive systems, procedures, processes and marketing strategies, supported in every way possible by use of leading edge technology.

The plan involves a continual process of reinventing every aspect of the business and to remain at the forefront in the use of technology, the internet and communication. Mikes objective is simple; and that is to nurture the agent client relationship so as to grow the business through repeat business from satisfied clients.

Whilst Mike’s business model continues to be a resounding success, he considers his greatest accomplishment to be the people within the business and their willing to continually learn and improve their skills. As a firm believer in continued learning and professional development, Mike has become a well known figure in the real estate training fraternity. He is the chairman and founder of the First National’s ’South East Queensland Training Academy’ SEQA ( ). SEQA provides regular training opportunities for all salespeople, property managers and support staff of the 70 SE Queensland First National offices.

Mike has been a "local" in the Nerang area since 1987. Although Mike and his family enjoy the beaches, boating and the many Gold Coast attractions, it’s the easy paced lifestyle of Nerang region that makes it their number one choice of places to live.
